Halloween Food Fun

Photobucket

The Argus Leader, which is a regional newspaper in our town contacted me to ask for my creativity in creating regular food with a Halloween twist. This kind of challenge right up my alley. So I piled up ideas, some original, some I had seen before and whipped up an awesome spread. I was so caught in the moment I didn't even take photos of the kids eating the food. The paper photographer did, but I was able, thanks to my husband's prompting, able to take finished product photos so here we go!

Mummy Dogs
Hot dogs wrapped in refrigerator crescent rolls that had been cut into strips. Then just bake according to the time on the crescent roll package. I am pretty sure this idea popped up just by doing a simple search for Halloween food images, but i thought it was so simple cute and everyday I had to do it, and it was easy, and I must say surprisingly tasty!

Blood Soup and Cookie Cutter Grilled Cheese
Who doesn't love grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup in the fall. My daycare lady Lois, used to call tomato soup blood soup for fun around Halloween time. We had a blast pretending to be gross, and probably ate more. The grilled cheese ghosts, and pumpkins in this photo were cut out with Halloween cookie cutters, and given faces with pieces of peppers and black olives.

Creature Mac-n-Cheese
Halloween is a great time to whip out this nice food fun recipe. This happened to be my first ever project post on my blog! Check out the how to here.In this version our main creature seems to have mass produced itself. I created these mini creatures by cutting the hot dogs in half first.

Rice Skull
A friend of mine made me some Korean food the other day called Kimbop. Then she gifted me some of the dried seaweed used to make it. So I took some cooked medium grain rice I had in the fridge and placed a pile inside some plastic wrap so I could squish and form it into a skull shape. Then I used the scissors to cut pieces of the dried seaweed sheets to make the facial details.

Candy Corn Cheese Pizza
This idea I got from a second grade teacher at Hawthorn Elementary school back when I was student teaching. She made it for the class Halloween party. Put white cheese in the middle then a ring of orange and the crust makes the yellow layer so that when you cut it into triangles it is colored just like candy corn.

Decorated Cupcake Stand like the tutorial here, but Halloween style. I just added some candy corn ribbon around the outside of each layer, and some green tissue to help support the ghost cookies. Helpful hint. I searched for cupcake stands and researched cupcake stands, and Walmart had the best one and it ended up being the best price as well. Sturdy, stacks snug, but comes apart for storage. Very nice product for the same price you could buy cardboard ones online.

On the bottom layer you will find Witches Hands. My mother made these when I was little. All you need is a plastic serving glove, I prefer the clear plastic ones that are like baggies, but I was unable to find them last minute, and so I used some other food serving gloves, but turned them inside out so that the food touched what was the outside since the inside of this type of glove has a powder on them. Then you put one piece of candy corn in each finger, and fill the rest with popcorn before securing the top with a ribbon. You can add a spider ring if you wish.

Nutter Butter Ghost Cookies that tutorial is located here.
